Great fun runs in Texas

We have become too reliant on electronics for entertainment: when we’re bored or looking to have a good time, turning on the TV or checking the smartphone shouldn’t replace going outside and actually doing something.

If you’d like to have some fun under a clear sky, running is a great way to do it: since running is coded deep into our genes, you won’t need much besides a pair of decent shoes and enough endurance to complete an entire run.

If you’re struggling to find the perfect event for you, here’s an overview of some great fun runs in Texas that everyone can attend. If you are in the New Braunfels area, hit me up for a great run along the Guadalupe!

Monster Triathlon: Triathlons are considered to be among the more demanding feats that one can attempt, yet they aren’t only for the super humanly-conditioned – people of all ages can compete in a triathlon so long as they’re ready to take a bit longer to finish it. Indeed, don’t forget that this ‘run’ also consists of swimming and cycling, meaning you should look elsewhere if you aren’t comfortable with those activities.

The Great Amazing Race: In line with difficult courses, the Great Amazing Race is known for sets of obstacles throughout its mile-and-a-half stretch. Teamwork is the name of the game here – attendees are meant to run in groups that consist of family members and friends aiding each other towards the finish line. Aside from the usual competitiveness involved when running against other people, this race also gives you a chance to compete in a championship version with a nice winner’s prize.

3M Half Marathon: If you aren’t feeling conditioned enough to go for a full marathon, a half marathon might be exactly what you need – these runs give you an idea of what an actual marathon is like without forcing your body to complete the gruesome 26 miles. The 3M Half Marathon is one of the most popular half marathons in the state and is sure to give lovers of long-distance running a good time regardless of their physical capabilities.

Various New Braunfels runs: New Braunfels ranks among Texas’ most beautiful cities both due to its urban developments and its countryside. What better way to explore it than through a nice run? The city holds many different runs throughout the year – sponsored by local companies like New Braunfels Rain Gutter Pros and organized with the runners in mind, these events are a great way to meet new people while improving your conditioning.

ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk: Running for a cause is always fun and ZERO’s run has a good one: spreading awareness over the deadly disease that is prostate cancer. Since helping with a cause is central to this race, attendees aren’t required to keep a certain pace but are instead free to walk for the duration of the event should they so choose.

Heroes Run: This event has a great name to it: who wouldn’t want to be called a hero for completing a run? As it turns out, the heroes that the name refers to are wartime first responders and the like – while you won’t be called a hero for running in their honor, you might still feel pretty heroic after passing the finish line.
