FEATURED RESCUE

Shelby And Kaleb Find Their Forever Home Together!!
UPDATE, November 2007: Good news, Shelby and Kaleb have been adopted! They are now living in a wonderful home with very loving adoptive parents, they have a cat buddy to snuggle with, and a big yard to play and run in. Their new parents also have a motor home and like to travel in the summer…Shelby and Kaleb will be going along of course! We are so happy and grateful that they will still be together, bringing smiles, joy, and companionship to the lucky couple who adopted them. Littermates Shelby and Kaleb have been together their whole lives and are totally devoted to each other. Their world fell apart in late August when their owner developed serious health problems and could no longer care for them. Both were surrendered to Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue (DVGRR) and we are currently seeking an adoptive home where these two 6-year-olds can stay together. Watch them for a while and you will see them often move in tandem…their tails wag in unison and they are constantly together. They are as sweet as can be, well-behaved, affectionate, and playful! Both were understandably a little anxious upon arrival at Golden Gateway, DVGRR’s kennel facility, but they have become more and more comfortable as they’ve gotten to know our staff, volunteers, and daily routine.

Kaleb has a history of seizures and has indeed had several while at Gateway. Our vet has changed his medication to a more widely used seizure drug (phenobarbitol) and we are optimistic that will reduce the frequency of the seizures. This condition is one that must be monitored carefully but should not affect Kaleb’s ability to play, snuggle with his new owner, or lead an essentially normal life. Sister Shelby has some stiffness in her hips and will need to stay on a joint supplement, which she has been started on while at Gateway. A short time after arrival, Shelby gave us quite a scare when we started finding blood spots in her kennel. We determined that the blood was coming from her nose, which can be quite serious in a dog. Off she went to the vet for an exam and diagnostic work to to figure out what was going on. We all breathed a sigh of relief when the tests came back showing no signs of a tumor or other problem …our vet feels that she may have just irritated her nasal passageway and that led to some temporary bleeding.

These two slender, happy wonderful dogs will provide their new family with double the wags, double the smiles, and double the fun. We are committed to making sure they can remain together in a new home. They are a great pair!
